Ala @ Shanghai Day 1

--Airport & MU--
Reached airport at ard 10 plus. Tuan's friends were there to send her off while E.W and I were queueing up to check in (super long queue). Luckily, we managed to get good seats just behind the business class. Hoho!
12.55am..boarded MU544 to Shanghai. The journey was about 5 hours...couldnt do much except sleeping. Their radio programme was boring, lucky i got bring my mp3. I already have no expectations on their food or what so ever. My dinner was exactly the same like the one I had when i travelled to Yunnan (Noodles with siew mai..). Very few Sgporeans on board, nearly all Chinese nationals...the way they slept on plane was "interesting". Suay kia Ah Ching kena migraine again...this time round i cld feel two sharp pains near my upper neck area...i cld feel the pain shooting up to mid-brain area, but lucky it's not like last time when i was in Cathay (the pain really shot up to the top of ur brain leh)..It's really painful, and I didn't feel well afterwards. Haiz...
Sun started to rise at 4am plus.
--Charms Hotel 中福大酒店--
Reached Pudong Int'l Airport at 6am. Tuan went to T2 to wait for her senior who took SQ while we went to our hotel at Puxi. The location of the hotel is quite good. It's at the heart of the downtown in Shanghai (Huangpu district). Walked down i can go to Raffles city, and their "Orchard rd", East Nanjing rd was just on the next street. It's also very near to places such as People's Square, Fuzhou rd, Xin Tian Di and Yuyuan.
Sometimes it's good to have a triple bed...check out my room. I am the "ting zhang" for 4 days...lolz! Our room was larger than the normal rooms la..
E.W & Aunt Jo's beds...

The little small corner beside my bed.
--People's Square 人民广场 & West Nanjing Rd 南京西路--
Lots of old buildings beside Renmin Sq. Check'em out!

A memorial site..
Memorial site 2.

Park Hotel.
Skyscraper..a common scene in Shanghai.
Huanghe road food street. Their food streets are actually rows of restaurants, not night mkts. Didn't really venture the place though.
J.W Marriot Hotel.
Entrance to People's Park.
The Radisson Hotel looks really good at night. I think the "round saucer" is their restaurant la. One of the landmarks just beside People's Sq. Beside it is "Shanghai New World".

CapitaLand & Raffles City. Shanghai's Raffles City is larger than ours ba...alot of stores cld be found in SG. There's Prima Taste & Banana Leaf wor. Their Giordano Concept store's clothes seemed more ex than ours leh. One jacket cost more than a hundred bucks! Had meals at Food Republic and dessert at Tang Chao. Tang Chao's drinks were cheap, but small in size..ha!
Moore Church. I think it's either closed down or some renovation works going on. It's a pretty old church la.
Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall 1
Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall 2
The Shanghai Museum in the background. Will show your the building once again in my Day 5 entry.
--Fuzhou Rd 福州路--
This road's well-known for bookstores & food. "Shanghai Book City" has their biggest bookstore here (7 storeys wor!) Also, the "foreign bk store", which has more imported books is also nearby. There are many small shops doing photocopying, binding and stuffs.
Btw, if you wanna buy books back, or any others things, do bring your own shopping bags or plastic bags to carry them. And it's the same for the entire China. But don't worry..u can still buy shopping bags in bigger stores la. Or if nt, get a bigger bag. Lolz!
Yifu Wu Tai...I think it's rather famous for staging operas.
Passed by their Huangpu district Lib..kinda rundown.
A street scene in Shanghai.
"MomoChacha"??? Sounds familiar? A SG themed restaurant..no chance to try their food leh.
Wu Gong hotel with old-styled exterior design.
--East Nanjing Rd 南京东路--
The shopping mall opp my hotel..Yong An Department stall which is 90 yrs old lo! Rather up-mkt sia. More night shots at later entries. Btw, u will notice that there were many wires & cables on the streets. Shanghai still has buses moving with cables (dian che). Kinda like those in HK island, but they're single decked.
The front view of Charms Hotel.
--Fudan University 复旦大学--
Went to visit Tuan's hostel after she has settled down and completed her registration stuffs. Fudan is located at Yangpu district (though most guidebooks wld tell u it's at Hongkou district.)We took a taxi which costed abt 40rmb (8sgd). Their starting prx is 11rmb (2.2sgd). Not really ex, but their driving sux to the max. If u think SG taxi drivers are horrible, go try Shanghai ones. Hah. Most of their taxi drivers don't wear the seatbelt..and u can follow the same too! Lolz! They just cut lanes in front of other vehicles...their traffic is really terrible sia. If you wanna cross the road, have to give way to vehicles who are right-turning..they won't stop for u like what we do here hor! So kns!
The tallest building around the area, Fudan's hostel for foreign students. Flooded with Koreans, Japanese, Indians & Westerners. Saw some Africans too. Tuan lives on the 20th floor, hope the lifts wont break down. Lolz!
View from her room 1.
View from her room 2. Opp is Tongji Uni's campus.
--Wujiaochang Walmart--
Went to the nearby Walmart to buy daily necessities for Tuan. I've never seen E.W spent so much on daily necessities in one go! Hahaha! The big trolley was not enough to put everything sia! E.W spent ard 650rmb (132sgd)on the stuffs. Now then I know we cld buy so much with that amt...imagine how much can we buy here la? Amazed lo. China's stuffs are bloody cheap. Lolz!
Had dinner at "Lanzhou La Mian", a little restaurant ard her sch area, and it's opened by a muslim family. (Quite alot of muslim restaurants in Shanghai ne~). One big bowl of beef noodles only costed 6rmb! That's abt 1sgd lo! Really cheap & what's more? It's delicious!
Cleaned up her room and stayed till 8 plus. Tired was the only word i cld say when i returned to our room. My waist was aching lo...so lousy right?
